Hwadam Botanic Garden is located 40 minutes drive from Seoul in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. It was designed by the LG Foundation as a preservation sanctuary to revive the country’s forest ecosystem. It owns a remarkable collection of 4,300 plant species and consists of 17 gardens with different themes.
This 1,350,000-square-meter area is famous for its colorful maple trees in October and November and its pink royal azaleas in May.
The botanic garden has a monorail, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery in a more comfortable way. In addition, in Autumn, the train is passing through the amazing “Tunnel of Autumn Leaves,” a section lined with thick, luxuriant maple trees.
Moreover, despite being located on a mountain area the garden is accessible for the visitors physically challenged. The garden has many sloping pathways on which wheelchairs and baby carriages move easily. The walkways are gently sloped and wide enough for two wheelchairs to pass at the same time.
Yongin Ecoventure is an adventure-themed park offering thrilling experiences in the forest. After listening to the instructions of the safety personnel, participants are required to wear a helmet and safety gear to experience different courses, which consist in climbing a tree using safety hooks, avoiding obstacles, crossing a log bridge, and climbing a rope to the opposite side to ride a zip wire in the forest.
